Una vez pasado Manzanares El Real y conforme el peregrino se acerca a la Sierra de Guadarrama, las encinas van dando paso a pinos silvestres y robles melojos, refugio de especies como zorros, cárabos, ginetas y abubillas, por ejemplo.
Desde Manzanares El Real el recorrido se orienta siguiendo la falda de la sierra hacia El Boalo –Cerceda– Mataelpino, Becerril de la Sierra, Navacerrada y Cercedilla, superando, mediante la calzada romana de Cercedilla, la Sierra de Guadarrama por el Puerto de la Fuenfría (km77), a 1.796 m de altitud. En este último tramo, el pino silvestre se impone conforme se asciende, dando posteriormente paso, en las zonas más elevadas, al matorral de altura. Búhos reales, corzos y ardillas habitan estos ecosistemas.
