Dirigida por Antonio del Real, la película narra un hecho histórico poco conocido entre el gran público, como es la traición de la Princesa de Éboli al Rey de España Felipe II, y las luchas de poder en la corte. Despierta, por tanto, curiosidad e interés cultural no sólo por el hecho histórico en sí, sino por ser un filme de intrigas palaciegas y aventuras para todo tipo de público.
Jasón Isaacs, Julia Ormond, Jürgen Prochnow, Jordi Mollá, Joaquim de Almeida, Juanjo Puigcorbé, Blanca Jara, Fabio Testi, Rosana Pastor, Pablo Puyol, Concha Cuetos y Anthony Peck componen el reparto internacional de esta coproducción entre Máscara Films (España) y Settima Luna (Italia) y exportable a todos los países, ya que, a pesar de ser un hecho histórico sucedido en España, no deja de ser una historia de ficción que puede interesar a cualquier ciudadano del mundo.
Entre otros sitios, se ha rodado en El Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, La Casita del Infante, La Herrería, el Monte Abantos y La Barranca.
