Sierra del Castillo: Ruta por Collado Mediano
29 de Abril de 2008La forma elegida para iniciar la subida es a partir de la calle Cobañera. Para subir a las peñas de La Cobañera a la izquierda sale una pista cementada que da acceso directo al depósito de agua. Desde aquí hay que buscar con cuidado una senda que parte desde la misma alambrada, y se alza después hasta el pie de las peñas por medio de una serie de escalones de piedra.
Desde La Cobañera seguiremos subiendo ladera arriba hasta llegar a una caseta del Canal de Isabel II, por donde pasa la primera pista forestal que rodea el monte. Unos metros más a la izquierda queda un cruce de caminos entre esta pista y otra que sube a través del pinar, algo desdibujada entre unas piedras. Tomaremos esta última, que cobra forma unos metros más arriba, hasta llegar -tras una gran curva- a la segunda pista o pista de arriba.
Esta segunda pista, que tomaremos hacia la derecha en dirección este, rodea el monte en un trayecto casi llano. Caminando por ella veremos a unos cien metros, un poco apartado hacia la derecha, un segundo mirador, a 1.180 m de altitud. Es momento de relajarse, pues lo que espera a partir de ahora es un duro tramo de subida que encontraremos a nuestra espalda por una ancha senda que acabará cortando perpendicularmente la ladera. Iniciado este tramo dejaremos a la derecha, medio escondida, una casa de piedra.
La dura subida comenzará a atenuarse alcanzando uno de los lugares más bellos del recorrido: una majada rodeada de pinos silvestres (reconocible por su tronco alto de color rosado) y alguna encina de gran porte. Hemos superado la sierra y al fondo se observa ya el entorno del pueblo de Navacerrada bajo la gran mole de La Maliciosa, pero falta todavía subir a la cumbre (en realidad las cumbres) de la Sierra del Castillo. Desde la misma pradera veremos un camino que sale hacia la derecha, abandonando el que se dispone a bajar hacia el norte. Un camino que pronto inicia una fuerte y engorrosa subida.
El camino acabará suavizándose algo más arriba en un trayecto seseante flanqueado por jara estepa, zarzas, rosales y algún berceo. Senda que evita pequeños roquedos, antesala de las casi media docena de pequeñas cumbres que compiten por coronar la Sierra del Castillo. La ganadora será una singular peña sobre la que se eleva una encina, identificable también por una pequeña veta de cuarzo instruido entre el granito, que blanquea a la vista.
Tras coronar esta peña, queda ya volver hacia el sur por una pequeña senda que nos conducirá hacia el mirador de la Sierra del Castillo, una plataforma metálica encaramada entre rocas, donde se dice que incluso en el peor mes de calor veraniego puede disfrutarse de una fresca brisa serrana.
La vuelta se realizará buscando de nuevo el camino ya recorrido.
